Trent & Mersey Canal, Shardlow, Derbyshire
The village of Shardlow flourished following the opening of the Trent & Mersey Canal in 1770. Wharves and warehouses sprang up to support the busy trade enjoyed by this canal port. One such building has been preserved and is now the Heritage Centre as seen in this photograph.

Boats on the Erewash Canal at Trent Lock
The borders of Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire meet at Trent Lock. Located close to Long Eaton it is a major canal junction where the River Soar and the Erewash Canal meet.
