Fallen leaves, Birchen Edge

Fallen leaves and golden trees below Birchen Edge. The edge is about half a mile long and stands above the Robin Hood Inn on the Baslow to Chesterfield road. A perfect playground for climbers the rocks are home to an obelisk named Nelson's monument. The monument was erected in 1810 by a local man from Baslow named John Brightman. Close to the monument three rocks known as the ""Three Ships"" have the names Victory, Defiant and Royal Soverin carved on them to commemorate three of Nelson's most famous ships.

Errwood Reservoir, Goyt Valley

Perfect autumn reflections across the reservoir to Wild Moor. The Errwood and Fernilee Reservoirs were completed in 1967 and provide drinking water for Stockport. Running through the Goyt Valley the River Goyt rises on the peaty expanses of Whestone Ridge about four miles south-west of Buxton then flows to join the Mersey near Stockport. The River's upper valley covers the ground between the desolate moors around the Cat and Fiddle Inn to the lively colourful Whaley Bridge. Although flooded to form the two reservoirs, the valley's southern area has retained its outstanding natural beauty and provides a tree-covered paradise for walkers.

 

Autumn, Stanton Moor Edge

Stunning autumn colours on Stanton Moor Edge overlooking Darley Dale. The moor is a perfect place for a walk with delightful views over Darley Dale and is also an important archaeological site. There are four stone circles on the moor the most well known being the Nine Ladies Stone Circle. Also on the moor is a solitary rock known as the Cork Stone which has iron handles set in the rock, try your hand at reaching the top !
