The idyllic setting of Loch Gairloch. The name of the loch comes from the Gaelic ""gearr"" meaning short. Gairloch has grown over the centuries into a busy port and centre for tourism. The Mackenzies of Gairloch were key to the development of the village as they never evicted their tenants during the Highland clearances, instead investing in boat-building.
